heart” (1 Sam. 16:7); “O LORD of hosts, who tests the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind” (Jer. 20:12). But God goes even further than merely describing the heart of man. He goes to great lengths to reveal what he sees so that he can show us what we cannot see. He often does this by means of adversity, trials, and suffering. When you begin to see your heart through the light of suffering, it is both revealing and humbling. Consider why God took Israel through forty years of wilderness sufferings.
